Potential Saatva Crib Mattress PFAS Lawsuit

If you bought a Saatva crib mattress, be aware that it may contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—also known as forever chemicals—contrary to Sattva's advertisements.

We are investigating a potential PFAS lawsuit arising from these misrepresentations.

If you have a Saatva crib mattress, you may be entitled to join a PFAS class action lawsuit and obtain compensation.

Introduction

Saatva mattress company advertises to the public that its mattresses are nontoxic, safe, natural and eco-friendly.

In other words, it advertises that its mattresses, particularly its crib mattresses, are made with a baby’s safety in mind, giving parents peace of mind.

It also relies upon third party certifications to convince consumers that its products are safe and environmentally sound.

That means that Sattva's mattresses should not contain synthetic chemicals.

Recent studies of Sattva's mattresses, particularly its crib mattresses, show that these representations and advertisements may be false.

They show that Saatva’s crib mattresses contain harmful substances and harmful chemicals.

One recent study specifically shows that Saatva’s crib mattress contains per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances or PFAS or forever chemicals.

PFAS are a group of synthetic chemicals that are extremely resistant to degradation, persist in the environment, bioaccumulate in blood and body tissue, and can be harmful chemicals to humans and the environment, even at very low levels.

This is especially concerning when considering that the crib mattresses are meant for infants and toddlers—a vulnerable population.

As such, we are investigating claims against Saatva for false advertising and misleading statements concerning the composition of its mattresses, particularly crib mattresses.

If you purchased a Saatva crib mattress, you may be entitled to compensation.

What are PFAS?

PFAS are a group of synthetic chemicals that are used in household products, including bedding and other textiles, for stain and water resistance.

PFAS chemicals are called “forever chemicals” because they do not break down naturally in the environment, leading to the accumulation of toxic substances that can harm living organisms.

Testing of the Saatva crib mattress shows that it contains the following PFAS chemicals or toxic substances:

● 6:2 FTOH (2-Perfluorohexyl ethanol)
● Perfluoropentanoic acid (PFPeA)
● 1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (6:2 FTS)
● Perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA)
● Perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA)
● Perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA)
● Perfluoropropionic acid (PFPrA)
● 6:2 FTCA

Exposure to polyfluoroalkyl substances poses significant health risks, and has been linked to deadly cancers, impacts to the liver and heart, and immune and developmental damage to infants and children.

There is a growing consumer advocacy movement to eliminate PFAS from various products, given the severe health issues that they can cause.

Potential Claims Against Saatva

Saatva specifically represents that its crib mattresses for infants and toddlers are nontoxic and contain eco-friendly materials

With regard to its dual-sided crib mattress, for instance, Saatva states that it does not use harmful chemicals or sprays and that it uses “eco-friendly materials that are better for you and the planet.”

Saatva’s marketing material further states that “safety is built into every layer,” misleading customers into believing that its mattresses are made with all-natural materials.

Saatva’s misleading marketing omits that its products contain PFAS, which pose risks to human health and the environment, and instead deceptively emphasizes that its consumer products are healthy, safe, and better for the environment — misleading reasonable consumers.

Because its mattresses contain PFAS, they are not nontoxic, safe, natural, eco-friendly, or chemical-free, and pose risks to human health and the environment

PFBA, one of the toxic substances found through the study, for instance, has been shown to have toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, or teratogenic effects on humans.

PFHxA has been found to cause hepatic, developmental, hematopoietic, and endocrine effects in humans.

PFPeA is linked to cancer, harms the immune system, causes hormone disruption, and disrupts fetal growth, child development, and the liver.
